Some kids love the idea of therapy and eagerly embrace the process; others dread it and have less than zero interest in talking about their feelings with some random stranger.
I’ve been doing this for a while, so I have a pretty acutely sharpened sense of where the points of connection are going to be with a new client. I know how to gently and patiently set at ease the nervous or anxious, to kindly and firmly corral the squirmy and dysregulated, and to carefully and authentically offer hope to the hopeless. And then it’s time to get to work—setting goals and tracking our progress as we move forward together.
Most, but not all, of the kids in my practice are boys from about age 10 and up, and many are neurodivergent (ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, etc.). Sessions are ~50 minutes and can be in person or virtual (via Zoom).
You won’t necessarily!
And I won’t, either, until we have a chance to discuss your situation in more detail.
ambitious and high achieving, often within “high-powered” families
underachieving, feeling directionless and unmotivated
struggling with forming friendships with their peers
glued to their phones or games and at a loss as to how to develop offscreen interests
lacking in skills to regulate emotional outbursts
ambivalent, reluctant, or straight-up oppositional when it comes to therapy
Depending on what the therapeutic moment calls for, I can be fun and playful or cerebral and serious, I might pull for feelings or analyze a thought pattern, or I could just offer a safe space and the listening ear of a supportive adult—sometimes, after all, that’s what matters most.

The current rate is $350 for a ~50-minute session, either in person or virtual.
No, but I’m happy to provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
The short answer is: no. I’ve done in-home therapy for many years but am currently phasing it out. All sessions take place either at my office or online via Zoom.
No, but I often work closely with psychiatrists and can provide referrals when appropriate.
